NEWS NOTES
🏒 Saint John’s new home for ball hockey
After years of grinding it out on concrete, the game’s finally getting a proper barn. A new $4 million facility from Knapper opens May 14, built around specialized deck tile flooring designed specifically for ball hockey.
The setup includes both an indoor and outdoor rink, along with change rooms, a bar, and adjustable nets for smaller formats. There’s also room in the design to add another indoor surface down the line.
While ball hockey is the focus, the space isn’t limited to it. There’s already interest from groups involved in roller derby, roller hockey, and pickleball looking to book time.
🏥 St. Joe’s urgent care tweaks its hours
The Urgent Care Centre at St. Joseph’s Hospital is adjusting its posted hours starting Today (May 4), now running 8:30am to 8pm, seven days a week.
Horizon says there’s no reduction in service here. Staffing, physician coverage, and level of care all stay the same, this just clears up when people can expect to be treated.
🗳️ One more shot at early voting
We’re one week from election day, and if you’re itching to get it done, today’s the day.
Advance polls are open 10am to 8pm across New Brunswick, marking the second and final day to vote ahead of the May 11 municipal elections. It’s the option for anyone looking to avoid the usual election day rush or just check it off the list early.
Voter cards have been landing in mailboxes, and while they’re not required, bringing one can help speed things along. There’s also the option to vote by special ballot at returning offices if that works better.
Still deciding? We’ve got Q&As with candidates from across the Saint John Region, all in one place and updated as responses come in.
