NEWS NOTES

šŸŒ€ Round Two for Roundabouts Near the Airport

Saint John’s going full circle…again. With the city’s first modern roundabout about to break ground at Sandy Point and Foster Thurston, council just approved a second one near the airport, at Loch Lomond Road and Route 111.

Why now? Because the bid on the first roundabout came in under budget, freeing up $200K to kickstart design work on this next one. It’s still early days, but this one might be a two-laner.

Traffic planners say it’ll ease bottlenecks, prep for future airport growth, and reduce the odds of T-bone collisions. Bonus: no more waiting at lights while burning fuel. The province will also chip in for the design under its highway partnership program.

Construction’s not expected until next year, so no need to leave earlier for your flight just yet. ($)

šŸ’§ Cloudy with a Chance of Tap Water

If your taps run a little cloudy next week, don’t panic…it’s just the east side’s turn for the City’s annual watermain flushing, kicking off Monday. The pipe purge runs daily from 8am-8pm and might bring pressure drops or murky water in neighbourhoods east of the Reversing Falls. It won’t hurt you (just maybe skip filling the Brita mid-flush). The City says updates are coming as the flush zone widens over summer.

šŸ’ø Grants up for Grabs in Quispam

Got a bright idea, a good cause, or an event that brings folks together? Quispamsis wants to help fund it. The newly renamed Community Investment Program is now accepting applications for donations (under $500) and grants (over $500) for anything that boosts local life like projects, events, or programs. The deadline is Friday, August 29, and this is your shot 'til January. Apply online or grab a form at Town Hall.

šŸ’¬ The Results: Saint John’s Favourite Ice Cream Spots
We asked, you licked clicked…and now the results are in from Wednesday’s poll. Turns out Saint John has strong opinions when it comes to frozen treats.

Top picks:
šŸ¦ Pumpkin Patch ran away with it, pulling in 42% of the vote
šŸ¦ Bella’s came in second with 23%
šŸ¦ Flavours rounded out the top three with 9%

Kredl’s, Delish, and Pomodori each pulled 7%, while The Ice Cream Dock and Sugar Spider brought in a few loyal votes.

But more than 17% of you said we missed the real winner…and you had plenty to say:

ā€œSnow’s in Hampton!ā€ (You said that. A lot.)
ā€œFullerton’s Store on the Peninsula…open till 8pm with a patio to chill out on.ā€
ā€œPete’s Dairy Bar in St. George. 41 years in the biz and the best soft vanilla ice cream I've ever had.ā€
ā€œCountry Harvest on Rothesay Ave. The flavour selections are awesome.ā€
ā€œOctopus Ice Cream in St. Martins…great location in the harbour, friendly staff, generous portions.ā€

One reader summed it up simply:

ā€œI actually would have selected ā€˜all the above’ if it had been available.ā€ šŸ˜†

And, we can probably all agree on that! So as a little Foodie Friday treat, here’s every spot that got a mention, so you can plan your own weekend cone crawl.

šŸ“£ Porter O’Brien Leans into Saint John Fog

As Saint John sweltered earlier this week, a new Uptown window sign reminded us who we are: fog people. National communications firm Porter O’Brien has opened a new office at 36 Princess Street, and their window now reads ā€œDon’t let your message get lost in the fog.ā€

A day later? The fog rolled in like it had RSVP’d.

The firm’s three-person local team works in PR, consulting, and government relations with plans to expand their presence and partnerships in Saint John.

EVENTS
What’s Happenin’

🪐 Moonlight Bazaar’s Planetary Upgrade

This Saturday marks the return of Moonlight Bazaar, and it’s kicking off a three-weekend streak of major summer energy Uptown (Boxcar next week, Area 506 right after). The streets will close tomorrow at 4pm and the party starts soon after. Get ready for art, lights, music, food, fresh sod to chill out on and stare at the new twist overhead: Jupiter’s taking Mars’ place on Princess Street.

This is one of our favourite events of the year and reminder why we love this city. We’ll be there…and we’re betting you will too!

LOCAL PICS
WHERE WERE WE WEDNESDAY? šŸ“ø

šŸ“ On Wednesday we asked where this photo was taken and the answer is Canterbury and Princes, Uptown. A few of you nailed it: Liz M. got it right and shared that the artist, Elizabeth Cook, was inspired by fiber art inside Good Fibrations. Shawna M. thought it looked like something from the shop, and Edgar D. recognized the spot right away.
