Good morning, Saint John! It's National French Fry Day...which sounds like the perfect excuse to send the summer students on a lunch run. Just hope they don't all show up at Union House at once. (Best fries in the city. Fight me.)

Here’s what else is cookin’ up this morning:

NEWS NOTES

🏠 Quispamsis Habitat home available

Finding a detached home in Quispamsis that isn't listed for half a million dollars isn't exactly an everyday occurrence.

Habitat for Humanity New Brunswick is accepting applications for a three-bedroom bungalow on Hazelton Drive that's becoming available as one family moves on. Unlike the organization's usual new-build projects, this is an existing home that's being passed along through Habitat's homeownership program. The house includes a full basement, large backyard and is located in a residential neighbourhood about 15 minutes from Saint John. Applications are now open for eligible families.

🏒 Sea Dogs coaching staff takes shape

The Sea Dogs have rounded out Jim Hulton's coaching staff, hiring Daniel Nikandrov as an assistant coach. Nikandrov spent the past four seasons with the OHL's Soo Greyhounds, where he worked in player development and video analysis. He joins a revamped hockey operations group as Saint John continues to reshape the organization ahead of the 2026-27 season, which opens Sept. 18 in Newfoundland before the home opener on Sept. 25 against Moncton.

LOCAL PICS
WHERE WERE WE WEDNESDAY? 📸

📍 On Wednesday we shared this pic of a lawn share somewhere in the wild and really all we were hoping for was a few minutes of rest in the heat. Thankfully, this particular chair is located on the back patio at Long Bay Brewery in Rothesay, so it also came with a cold beer. Shout out to Paula E., Eddy D., Justin L., and Casey C. for knowing the spot!

🫧 On this day
Long before spin cycles and smartphone notifications, Saint John's John E. Turnbull patented a manual washing machine on this day in 1843. One load took about 10 minutes of elbow grease. Laundry day really earned its name.
