Good Morning, Saint John! Hope you got a little sunshine yesterday. It also marked the unofficial start of yard seasonā¦you know the moment. One neighbour decides itās go time, and just like that, the whole street is behind schedule. It looks like a bit more sun today, then a grey stretch through the week, but the weekendās hinting at a bounce back š¤

NEWS NOTES
š³ļøSome races heating up, others already decided
The ballot is officially set for May 11, and around here itās shaping up to be a mix of real races⦠and a few āno need to print signsā situations.
Letās start in Saint John, where things are very much on. Incumbent Donna Reardon is back in the race and facing a pair of challengers, including Barry Ogden and Blaine Harris. If you havenāt had any door knockers yet, you can bet theyāre coming, not to mention debates and probably a few spicy comment sections.
Outside the city, itās a quieter picture. In Rothesay, Matt Alexander is acclaimed as mayor, while Quispamsis will see Mary Schryer take the role without a vote. Same story in Grand Bay-Westfield, where Brittany Merrifield returns, and in Hampton, where Robert āDeweyā Doucet is acclaimed. Fundy-St. Martins also wonāt need a mayoral vote this time around.
Across the province, more than 1,100 candidates signed up for just under 600 council seats, with a mix of crowded races and completely uncontested ones depending on where you live.
Candidates have until 5pm today to withdraw. After that, the ballot is locked.
Election day is Monday, May 11. If you havenāt checked whether youāre registered to vote, nowās a good time. You can find everything you need, including voter registration, polling locations, and the full list of candidates, on the Elections New Brunswick website.
š¬ YOUR OPINION PLEASE!
Weāre putting together something a little different for this election.
Weāre planning to send the same set of questions to every mayoral and council candidate in the region, then publish all of their answers in one place so you can easily compare.
Before we send it outā¦
What do you actually want to hear about from candidates?
