Good Morning, Saint John! Somewhere, someone decided today should celebrate meat wrapped in more food… and frankly, that’s the kind of leadership we can get behind. It’s National Pigs-in-a-Blanket Day, so if your morning feels a little hectic, just remember, you could change it all with a hotdog in a croissant…
Here’s what else we’re dipping into day:

NEWS NOTES
📺 We’re gonna be on the TV
A major TV production may be making its way to the city.
Council approved a location agreement this week with Voyager Productions 12 Ltd., a company tied to the team behind The Amazing Race Canada.
The series has already been renewed for a 12th season and usually films in the spring. It last appeared in New Brunswick in 2024 with a semifinal leg in Miramichi.
There’s also some local industry chatter that this season could include a stronger Maritime presence.
📈 Province rolls out growth game plan
The province dropped a new economic strategy in Saint John this week, aiming to grow New Brunswick’s economy by 10% by 2030. Essentially, they’re talking additional private investment, more exports, and a push to make local companies bigger, faster, and more competitive.
To keep it all from getting lost in government shuffle, they’re also launching a new “Growth Office” to line up departments, speed up projects, and actually get things moving.
The focus hits five big levers: access to capital, innovation, workforce, infrastructure, and energy. It means more attention on port activity, trade routes, and sectors like seafood, forestry, cybersecurity, and manufacturing.
Big picture, it’s about making the province easier to invest in and better at selling what it already does well.

LOCAL BUSINESS
🍸 Checking into Mars Hotel
There’s a new plan for the space above Water Street, with cocktails leading the way.
The Mars Hotel is taking over the former Second Story space with a full reimagining from local hospitality vet Adam Landry. “It’s less of a taproom and more of a curated, hospitality-driven environment,” he said.
The timing lined up with what’s happening around the city right now. “Saint John is currently in a really energizing moment… people are looking for spaces that feel intentional.” The redesign comes as a collaboration with Judith Mackin and Tuck Studio, giving the room a more intentional, dialled-in feel.
Inside, it leans more dialled-in than your average night out, with warm, ambient lighting and intimate seating, and what Landry calls “a moody, welcoming room with a view.” Being one floor up opens things up to a full stretch of harbour and sky, something he says tends to catch people off guard the first time they walk in.
On the drinks side, it leans into classics and modern classics, with one familiar name likely to resurface. “I think our Maverick Martini will be the one featured in the most selfies,” he said.
The goal isn’t to be exclusive, just good enough that you want to stay. “We wanted to build something that feels elevated but not exclusive… where everyone feels like they belong.”
Opening is expected this spring.

WHERE WERE WE WEDNESDAY? 📸

📍 On Wednesday, we shared a close-up of some local forget-me-nots and asked if you knew where we were. A few of you clocked it as a Hooper piece but couldn’t quite place it. They’re the flowers held by one of the figures in the People Waiting for People sculpture in Market Square… a personal fave of ours. Shoutout to Jim B and Eddie D for getting close.
