🏗️ What if this hit North End?

Good morning, Saint John! It was on this day in 1879 that Maritimers celebrated Thanksgiving for the first time, giving thanks for the blessings of the harvest. 146 years later, all we’re harvesting are the leaves in the backyard that just keep coming…🍂

Here’s the lowdown for the day:

  • Check out what the North end could look like 🏙️

  • License plates go sticker-free 🚘

  • Don’t let your taps run wild 💧

One more sleep until the weekend!

NEWS NOTES

🖼️ North End dreams on display

Images from City of Saint John’s Shape Your City - North End Neighbourhood Plan

Ever wonder what the North End could look like in a few years? The City of Saint John has shared draft concept renderings on the Shape Your City page, showing potential changes in spots like Lansdowne Plaza, Main Street, Somerset Street, and more. Picture new housing types, pedestrian-friendly streets, urban villages, and public spaces that actually make you want to hang out.

Missed the October 28 open houses at Nick Nicolle Community Center or Lord Beaverbrook Rink? No problem. You can still check out all the boards, concept areas, and draft schedules online here. Feedback is welcome and you can email Sam Burns at [email protected].

💧 Easing up on the tap

Saint John Water wants us to give our taps a little break, and not just because your water bill will thank you. Despite a few rainy days, New Brunswick is still in an “extreme drought,” with water levels well below normal.

It’s easy to help out…shorter showers, full laundry loads, and no more letting the tap run while you brush. Even small habits help keep reservoirs healthy through winter.

🚗 No more sticker shock

Imagine a world where your license plate isn’t rocking a pile of little coloured stickers from all the way back in 2012…well, that day’s coming. The province just announced plans to ditch registration stickers altogether, with enforcement switching to electronic checks instead.

You’ll still need to renew your registration each year, but you can skip the peeling, sticking and stacking part. Renewal reminders will still come by mail or email…and soon, even text.

What a time to be alive.

🛳 Last Cruise of the Season
