From Hobby Collector to Full-Time Creator
Local creator Erin Jeffery chats with SJ Today at the Write Cup in Saint John.
Erin Jeffrey’s business began with matching Valentine’s Day earrings for herself and her daughter. Five years later, more than 100,000 people follow along as the Saint John creator turns polymer clay into intricate floral jewelry and artwork.
The founder of Erin Ellerker has always called herself a “collector of hobbies,” with sewing, painting, knitting and friendship bracelets all making the list. Her business name honours her maternal grandparents, avid makers who taught her the value of creating something by hand.
After years working in student recruitment and marketing at UNB, Erin turned her creative outlet into a full-time career. Her pieces have since reached customers across North America and as far away as Italy and Ireland.
“I don’t get the Sunday scaries anymore,” she said.

Duplex plan gets divided 🏘️
A plan to double the number of homes in part of Rothesay’s Sagamore Heights neighbourhood is getting a frosty reception next door.
Developers want duplexes permitted on 36 future lots along Sage Street and Juniper Court, allowing up to 72 homes instead of 36. Pat Shea told Rothesay’s planning committee that demand for single-family homes has cooled.
Town staff supported the change, but more than two dozen opposition letters arrived before the committee rejected it last week. A September 28 public hearing could now be scrapped, sparing everyone from hearing “neighbourhood character” into a microphone.

Theatre Talk Tuesday 🎭
Come From Away | September 16-20
Saint John Theatre Company brings the hit Canadian musical inspired by the thousands of stranded airline passengers welcomed into Gander after September 11 to the Imperial Theatre. Performances begin at 7:30pm Wednesday through Saturday, with 2pm matinees Saturday and Sunday.
Onam Mahotsavam 2026 | September 20
The Saint John Malayalee Association celebrates Onam Sunday from 3-6pm at Saint John High School with a live Indian music concert and cultural performances. Concert-only tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for children, with proceeds supporting L’Arche Saint John.
SNB: The Great Romances | September 23
Symphony New Brunswick opens its season at Imperial Theatre Wednesday at 7:30pm with the sweeping Romantic sound of Brahms’ Third Symphony and Tchaikovsky’s powerhouse First Piano Concerto. Mélanie Léonard conducts, with pianist Julien Gagné joining as guest artist. Adult tickets are $49, student tickets are $20 and children 12 and under attend free.
Tracy & Martina: Live | September 25
Cape Breton’s viral duo brings its first cross-Canada tour to Imperial Theatre Friday at 8pm. Tracy and Martina arrive with two hours of off-the-cuff storytelling, crowd interaction and the sort of East Coast family tales that feel suspiciously familiar. Advance tickets range from $46.25-$56.25.
Saint John Comedy Classic | September 26
The Saint John Comedy Classic returns to Imperial Theatre Saturday at 7:30pm with Juno-winning comedian and former This Hour Has 22 Minutes head writer Adam Christie, CBC Debaters regular Courtney Gilmour and Just For Laughs Vancouver performer Aaron Arya. The 90-minute show is for adults only, with $59 admission.
BMO Music Series | September 25-October 9
The Live @ The BMO Music Series has three very different evenings ahead, all beginning at 7:30pm at the BMO Studio Theatre. Preeper, Rhaye & MacKay open the run September 25 with Maritime Appalachian folk and three-part harmonies, pianist Sarah Hagen celebrates overlooked female composers with Wonder Women! October 1, and saxophonist Joel Miller moves from jazz standards to fresh takes on pop favourites October 9. Tickets are $40, or $35 for SJTC subscribers.
