Good morning, Saint John! We're kicking off the weekend by introducing you to the neighbourhood nuisance you didn't know you needed to meet: Neil the Seal. He's literally a ton of fun...provided that ton isn't rolling around on the boardwalk.

Here’s what we’re breaking down this morning:

  • Making moves on the board 🎲

  • Break a leg on season 9 🎭

  • Rev up your Saturday 🏁

Have a fantastic weekend!

NEWS NOTES

🏗 Saint John continues to grow

The first would see up to 267 apartment units built behind Lansdowne Plaza in the north end, replacing existing parking lots with three residential buildings ranging from five to six storeys.

The second is a proposed 121-room Hyatt Studios hotel on vacant land near McAllister Place off Loch Lomond Road.

Both projects are scheduled to be considered by the Planning Advisory Committee on July 21, with public hearings expected on August 17 if they proceed. ($)

🎭 Small stage, big season

The season opens in October with the Pulitzer Prize-winning Doubt, A Parable, followed by Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill, a one-woman play inspired by Billie Holiday's final performances. It wraps up next April with Vanya, a contemporary adaptation of Chekhov starring Canadian theatre icon Daniel MacIvor. Three-show subscriptions go on sale Monday for $145 ($118 for students), saving more than 10% over individual tickets. Single tickets go on sale August 4.
