NEWS NOTES

🏠 Grand Bay-Westfield Safety Tool Asks for Home Info

Grand Bay-Westfield’s Fire-Rescue Department has introduced Community Connect, a free platform allowing residents to provide detailed information about their homes, household members, pets, and special needs before emergencies happen. The goal is to give first responders crucial info that can speed up and improve emergency response.

Fire Chief Troy Gautreau stresses the system uses bank-level encryption and that the data is only accessed by emergency personnel during incidents. That said, it’s worth taking a moment to consider what it means to share this kind of personal information upfront, and whether it’s something you’re comfortable providing, even in the name of safety.

As with any personal data, reviewing the privacy policies and understanding the details before signing up is recommended.

👀 Get Up Close with the Port Cranes This Summer

Ready to crane your neck and get up close to an actual crane (or 6)? Here’s your chance! Port Saint John is throwing open the gates for a behind-the-scenes summer tour starting July 11. You’ll cruise through the Marco Polo Cruise Terminal, potash piles at Barrack Point, DP World cargo hubs, and Crosbys liquid bulk, all while soaking up the ins and outs of port life. Bonus: your ticket helps the Saint John Seafarers’ Mission, giving a home-away-from-home to the folks who keep our world’s trade moving. Parking’s free, cameras are allowed, but don’t even think about swimming in the molasses tank.

LOCAL BUSINESS
FOODIE FRIDAY

🍕Julius Brings Back the Late-Night Fun

If you’ve ever ended a night out clutching a slice from Julius, this one’s for you. The Charlotte Street classic is staying open ‘til 3:30am for Moonlight Bazaar on Saturday, July 19
just like the good ol’ days when the bars closed, the line was long, and the hardest choice to make was take that last sweaty slice of veggie in the display case or gamble on something fresh coming out soon, while half-listening to the guy behind you explain why he only drinks Moose Light.

Now they’re bringing it all back, and it's going to be a fun night!

LOCAL PICS
WHERE WERE WE WEDNESDAY? 📾

📍 On Wednesday we snapped this pic of a vintage Pepsi sign on the side of a building on the west side. And while we got a ton of guesses that correctly identified a west side building that has a vintage Pepsi sign
it wasn’t the right one! Shout out to Cody A, Jordan T, Sean M, David C and Rob for guessing Bob’s Takeout. However, the correct answer was Jim Bob’s Convenience! Sorry it ended up being so tricky!
