Good morning, Saint John! Apparently today is “I Love My Dentist Day” which sounds exactly like something invented by dentists while holding that little suction tube thing.

Here’s what we’re brushing up on this morning:

  • Trade traffic for fresh air 🍃

  • Catch the Jays by the Bay 🧢

  • Once in a blue moon pic 📸

Let’s drill in!

NEWS NOTES

🚲 Walk, bike or ride this week

“Hills used to be a deterrent,” Nick said about cycling in Saint John. “But they disappear on an e-bike.”

Nick also believes attitudes around active transportation are slowly shifting, even after bike lanes became a heated topic during the recent municipal election.

“There’s growing interest in active transportation,” he said, adding that newer protected bike lanes like Main Street help ease concerns for people who are curious about cycling but nervous about traffic.

And for anyone intimidated to try transit or biking more often?

“Start with small trips, give yourself time, and embrace the slowness,” Nick said. “It’s like getting a piece of your childhood back every day.”

⚾ Blue Jays Watch Party Hits The Waterfront Sunday

Saint John baseball fans are invited to gather at Ihtoli-maqahamok – The Gathering Space on Sunday afternoon for a free Toronto Blue Jays watch party on the big screen.

The Port City Pirates will host trivia starting at 1:30pm before first pitch.

The event moves inside Market Square Atrium if needed due to weather.

Readers may also remember SJ Today previously reported on revitalization plans connected to St. Peter’s Field and the Port City Pirates.

🌕 Quispamsis moon shot goes global

A moon photo captured by Quispamsis photographer Stephane Picard has been featured by EarthSky in a story about one of astronomy’s rarest quirks…seasons with only two full moons.

The snowy “Cold Moon” image was captured during last December’s deep freeze in New Brunswick and is now lighting up the astronomy site’s latest feature.

And if you’re already planning your next moon pic, the Strawberry Moon arrives June 29 at 8:58pm.
