NEWS NOTES
🏭 Saint John’s got gas
New Brunswick’s Natural Resources Minister John Herron says our port city is Canada’s best bet for liquified natural gas exports to Europe. He points to Saint John’s existing terminal and pipeline network as the only setup that could realistically be market-ready within 3–4 years. The Holt government has been in regular talks with Repsol and TC Energy about expansion, but it’s still early days. For now, Saint John remains in the LNG spotlight.
🧹 Chipman Hill gets a clean sweep
If you spotted a crew scattering what looked like garden soil uptown yesterday, it wasn’t the fall planting session for the Marigolds Project on Chipman Hill. Firefighters were dealing with a hydraulic fluid spill and busted out bags of trusty peat moss to soak it up. The slick mess was handled quickly, with help from city works, and officials say almost none made it into the sewers. Mystery remains though…no leaking vehicle in sight. ($)
🥇 Golden ride for Quispamsis champ
Alexandre Hayward just pedalled his way into history. The Quispamsis powerhouse snagged gold at the Para-Cycling Road World Championships in Belgium, leaving the world’s best in his dust during the men’s C3 time trial. It’s not his first podium moment, he’s stacked medals from Rio to Australia, but this win shines extra bright: Canada’s first gold of the championships. Turns out Hampton Road leads straight to the top of the world.
🛳 Norwegian Getaway docks today
The Norwegian Getaway docks today with up to 4,000 tourists. If one of them asks where to grab a beer, just nod and point them to the Presidential Pack chilling on the Moosehead Taproom patio. They’ll figure it out…eventually.
