📺 Race runs thru Saint John tonight

Good morning, Saint John! September has arrived, which means summer is over emotionally, even though the calendar says we’ve still got three weeks. Keep the shorts out and the paddleboard moving, but maybe slide the rake a little closer to the door.

Saint John enters the race 🏁

Saint John gets its national close-up tonight, complete with scallops, cement and what appears to be some highly competitive DJing.

The Amazing Race Canada races through the region at 9 p.m. on CTV. Teams cross the Bay of Fundy aboard the Fundy Rose before tackling challenges around Uptown Saint John and Fundy-St. Martins, with the leg ending at the St. Martins Sea Caves.

The trailer shows racers DJing at Crave Lounge, shucking scallops and getting messy with cement before racing to the mat. The episode streams Wednesday on Crave, in case watching strangers struggle with directions around Saint John requires a second viewing.

Local artists get a little green 🎨

Three Greater Saint John artists are getting a little extra room to create.

Svitlana Goncharova is a Quispamsis-based Ukrainian-Canadian artist and instructor known for bright, expressive watercolours. Caitlin Lapeña is a Rowley-based artist working across drawing, collage, painting and printmaking. Pamela Pierce is a longtime Saint John artist and illustrator whose ink-and-watercolour work has appeared around the city and in Hard Times in the Maritimes.

Each received $1,325 from the Greater Saint John Professional Visual Artists Fund. The money can go toward everything from materials and equipment to studio space, travel, residencies and getting their work in front of more eyeballs.

The fund began with money raised by a group of local artists and supporters known as the “Tea Towel Team,” whose art events date back to 2003. The New Brunswick Museum and Saint John Arts Centre now help award the grants, proving once again that tea towels can accomplish far more than drying the same three dishes beside your sink.

Lepreau hits another snag ⚡

Point Lepreau is temporarily offline again while crews repair a gasket in its turbine system. The issue was found as the station powered back up following planned maintenance. NB Power says there’s no risk to the public, but hasn’t said when the plant will return to service.

Frozen Tickets Go On Sale | September 1
Single tickets go on sale today, September 1, for Saint John Theatre Company’s production of Disney’s Frozen: The Broadway Musical. Anna, Elsa and Olaf take over Imperial Theatre November 25–28, with tickets priced at $70 for adults, $65 for seniors and $40 for students.

Experience KPOP Live | September 2–3
A touring K-pop production brings music, choreography and an immersive concert experience to the Saint John Exhibition Centre at 129 McAllister Drive. Performances are scheduled for 3pm and 6pm on both Wednesday and Thursday, with advance tickets available through Eventbrite.

Country Boys Tribute | September 5
The music of Alan Jackson, Garth Brooks, Brad Paisley and George Strait gets the tribute treatment at Imperial Theatre. The 150-minute show begins at 8 PM, with tickets priced at $58 including taxes and fees.

Thane Dunn’s Final Saint John Performance | September 12
Two-time world champion Elvis tribute artist Thane Dunn returns to Imperial Theatre for his final Saint John performance. Backed by a hand-picked band of Maritime musicians, he’ll cover favourites from across Elvis Presley’s career with authentic replica jumpsuits, plenty of audience interaction and the big sound of the King’s legendary live shows. The show begins at 7:30pm and tickets are $54.75.

Come From Away | September 15–20
Saint John Theatre Company and Rogue Productions bring Come From Away back to Imperial Theatre following stops in Moncton and Fredericton. An all-New Brunswick cast, including Broadway’s Tony LePage, tells the true story of the thousands of airline passengers welcomed into Gander after 9/11. Tickets range from 75–85, with evening and weekend matinee performances available.
