Labour takes to the streets ✊
Saint John’s Labour Day Parade will make its way through Uptown Monday morning, giving the long weekend’s namesake its proper turn in the spotlight.
The parade leaves Long Wharf at 11 AM and travels along Smythe, Union, St. Patrick and Water streets before finishing at the AREA 506 Waterfront Container Village. Water Street will briefly close as it passes, with the disruption expected to last about 15 minutes.
Dirt bikes hit a legal speed bump 🏍️
If it has a throttle but no pedals, calling it an e-bike won’t magically make it one.
Kennebecasis Regional Police say complaints about electric dirt bikes are climbing and officers will be enforcing the rules. Unlike pedal-assisted e-bikes, the machines may be prohibited from public roads, sidewalks, parks, trails, school grounds and parking lots, depending on the law that applies.
Riding where they aren’t permitted could bring fines or even a seized bike, complete with an impound bill. Police are urging riders and parents to check the rules before buying one or taking it out for a rip.
Ibrahim’s future takes flight ✈️
A new video from the Business Community Anti-Poverty Initiative is showing what can happen when Saint John businesses team up with organizations already helping local young people find their footing.
The video follows Ibrahim, who came to Saint John from Aleppo, Syria, and connected with the Teen Resource Centre for tutoring, support and community. Through a partnership facilitated by BCAPI, the centre helped him secure a summer job with Saint John Energy, where he has now spent two summers building skills, confidence and a wider network of people in his new home.
Ibrahim is now entering his second year in Mount Allison University’s aviation program, working toward his pilot’s licence and dreaming of one day flying for Air Canada.

Saint John Exhibition 2026 | September 4–5
The Saint John Exhibition rolls through its final two days with midway rides, live entertainment, farm animals and enough festival food to make supper plans unnecessary. The grounds also feature Science East, LegoVille, chainsaw carving, model railroads, agricultural shows and displays of local art, baking, flowers and more. Admission is free, ride bracelets are available daily and the midway stays open until 11pm.
Saint John Sea Dogs vs. Halifax Mooseheads | September 4
The Sea Dogs are back at TD Station Friday night for a pre-season meeting with the Halifax Mooseheads. It’s an early look at this year’s roster, plus the return of a Maritime rivalry that rarely feels particularly friendly, even when the standings don’t count. Puck drop is at 7pm.
KV Music Fest | September 4
KV Music Fest celebrates its 20th anniversary with Colin James, The Trews, Toque and Raglan Road performing beneath the big event tents outside Vito’s KV. Doors open at 5 PM for the 19+ show, with food available throughout the evening. Tickets are $115 plus tax and fees, and free Safe Ride shuttles will head toward the KV, Uptown and west side after the music wraps.
Tacos & Tequila | September 5
Saturday’s forecast calls for tacos with a strong chance of margaritas at the AREA 506 Waterfront Container Village. The free, all-ages waterfront party runs from 2–9pm with food specials, prizes, a pop-up margarita bar and live music from El Tata y Los Taqueros. Hornitos and Good Robot Brewing Company are bringing the refreshments.
Early Karaoke | September 5–7
R-Bar is starting karaoke at 5pm Saturday and Sunday, then adding a bonus Monday session because long weekends deserve an encore. Jen X gets the early crowd singing while there’s still daylight before Matt Currie takes over and keeps the mic moving until 2pm. Show up early, stay late or confidently perform the same song on all three nights.
