😎 One Weekend, Too Much Fun? Probably.

Good morning Saint John, it was fifty years ago today, New Brunswick finally hit the brakes on Bricklin Canada Ltd., putting the flashy sports car company into receivership after a $23 million joyride gone wrong. Our dreams of being the next Detroit hit the ditch. 🚗

Here’s whats driving our morning:

  • Kids skipping steps, literally 🏃‍♂️

  • Serious faces, big cameras 😳

  • Golden Girls gone wild (18+) 💃

Have a fantastic Thursday!

NEWS NOTES

📊 SJ kids could improve in the health game

New Brunswick’s latest Student Wellness survey shows there’s some work to do when it comes to youth health, and Saint John students have room for improvement.

Just 24% of NB youth are hitting the hour-a-day activity mark, and only 12% are keeping leisure screen time under two hours. On the brighter side, most are getting enough sleep, but one in five have tried alcohol, vaping, cannabis, or cigarettes.

Saint John’s results fell below the provincial average, but the survey’s big message is that change is possible with community support. The data is meant as a starting point, not a verdict.

Curious how your community stacks up? Check out the full NB Health Council findings here.

🏀 Hoops and Woj bombs in Rothesay

The Milner Invitational Basketball Tournament tips off today at Rothesay Netherwood School, and the court is stacked with talent. The RNS Prep Boys squad is hosting a lineup of USports and CCAA heavyweights like St. F.X., Acadia, Calgary, Crandall, and UNBSJ.

The weekend also includes a fireside chat with none other than Adrian “Woj” Wojnarowski, ESPN’s king of NBA scoops and now GM at St. Bonaventure.

The tourney is named for RNS alum Andrew Milner ’17, a rising star lost in 2019, and keeps his legacy at centre court.

Games run through Saturday, tickets at the door. Full schedule here.

📸 Strike a pose, 1800s style

Parade on King Street. Photo from Martha Langford’s A History of Photography in Canada [Volume I – Anticipation to Participation] (McGill-Queen’s University Press, 2025) via NB Museum.

Before selfies, ring lights, and filters, early photographers were wrangling giant cameras, long exposures, and very serious faces. The New Brunswick Museum just got its hands on Martha Langford’s brand-new book A History of Photography in Canada, and their blog is showing off some gems from the archives, including a few shots from right here in NB.

Check out the local photo above, then head to the Museum’s blog for the full throwback collection.

🚢 Cruisers beat the clouds

The Norwegian Getaway sails into Saint John Thursday with 4,000 passengers ready to roam. They’ll have until 3pm to soak up a pleasant 22° mix of sun and cloud before the skies flip the switch…heavy rain and gusty winds are set to crash the party by evening. Good news for the tourists: they’ll be gone by sail-away. Good news for us? Lawns and gardens finally get that long drink.
