Good morning, Saint John! A marmot made the news yesterday after drinking radiator fluid and winding up in San Francisco…sounds like a party story we can all relate to.

Here’s what we’re guzzlin’ down today:

  • Moosehead’s expensive American round 🍺

  • The King is leaving the building 🕺

  • Saint John gets on the line ☎️

Let’s get to the weekend!

NEWS NOTES

Moosehead’s costly shelf defence 🍺

Moosehead is losing at least six figures every month selling beer in the United States, but walking away could cost even more.

Company president Andrew Oland said that new 50 per cent U.S. tariffs have wiped out the profit on every shipment heading south. The Saint John brewery keeps sending it anyway because giving up its spot on American shelves could take years to undo.

The U.S. accounts for 15 per cent of Moosehead’s sales, and a new ban on many Canadian alcohol products is expected September 29. For now, Moosehead is paying a painful price to keep its seat at the bar.

Building homes in Milford 🏗️

SeaLedge Court is getting its third and final apartment building, bringing another 31 homes to the heart of Milford.

No timeline yet, but SeaLedge is officially heading into its final phase. ($)

Lepreau plugs back in ⚡

Point Lepreau is back on the grid after a problem with its turbine system knocked it offline.

NB Power says the station reconnected September 8 after crews replaced gaskets and completed the required testing. The cost of the outage will appear later in the utility’s annual financial statements.
