Good morning Saint John! It’s National Maritime Day today, it would’ve felt a little weird for a port city on the Bay of Fundy to not acknowledge it. Consider this your official permission slip to spend the weekend near the water. 🌊

NEWS NOTES
🌊 High tides in Toronto
Commuters and visitors alike in Toronto are being greeted this week by a pretty wild sight at Front and Spadina. A giant Bay of Fundy fishing boat is dangling in the air like a salty Maritime fair ride.
There’s also oysters being served on site, but as far as we can tell, no fiddleheads have been exported because you gotta be here to get ‘em.
The activation runs until Sunday and is already drawing crowds curious enough to climb aboard a flying fishing boat in the middle of downtown.
🦌 Time to shoot your shot
The province has opened applications for New Brunswick’s 2026 moose draw, meaning thousands of people are once again convincing themselves this is finally their year.
Moose season runs Sept. 22-26, giving successful hunters plenty of time to start planning camps, scouting trips and figuring out who’s in charge of the propane this year.
🎻 Symphony NB’s bringing a Juno winner to town
Symphony NB is closing out its season with a pretty major guest. Inuk soprano and composer Deantha Edmunds, fresh off a 2025 Juno win for Classical Composition of the Year, is performing at the Imperial Theatre on June 3.
Edmunds, who’s been recognized as Canada’s first Inuk professional classical singer, has performed everywhere from the Toronto Symphony Orchestra to festivals and theatres across the country. The Saint John show will feature her award-winning work Angmalukisaa alongside the legendary Enigma Variations.

What’s Happenin’
What’s The Funny | May 22
The Kennebecasis Legion is handing the mic to Bow Master of Ceremonies for a stand-up comedy night featuring headliner John Skov-Nielsen alongside a stacked local lineup including Liam Patrick McNamara, Nathan Dimitroff, David Myles Holland Hall, and Martin Bowmaster. Doors open at 7:30pm with the show starting at 8:30pm. Advance tickets are cheaper, which is usually a good motivator in this economy.
Town-Wide Yard Sale | May 23
Quispamsis turns into one giant bargain hunt Saturday during the annual Town-Wide Yard Sale. Residents across town are encouraged to post their addresses online and spend the day selling everything from hockey equipment to mystery bins labelled “misc.” Early birds are basically training for this all year.
Community-Wide Yard Sale | May 23
Grand Bay-Westfield is also diving headfirst into yard sale season with a community-wide sale happening throughout town. There’s limited table space available at the splash pad parking lot for sellers, while bargain hunters can spend the day chasing deals and debating whether they really need another folding chair.
Sun Catchers at the City Market | May 23
The Saint John City Market is leaning into spring vibes Saturday with a DIY sun catcher station and live acoustic music downtown. Visitors can build custom bead spiral sun catchers at The Blue Pelican Bath & Body from 11am-2pm, while musician Wayne Hansen performs live throughout the market from noon-3pm with a mix of covers and original songs. Basically, a good excuse to wander the market pretending you only stopped in for one thing.
Saint John Alpines Doubleheader | May 23
The Saint John Alpines are hosting a Saturday afternoon doubleheader at Memorial Field against the reigning NBSBL and national champion PEI Islanders. First pitch goes at 2pm, with the second game starting roughly 30 minutes after Game 1 wraps up. Organizers are encouraging fans to bring lawn chairs, sunglasses, and loud opinions about strike zones for what should be one of the team’s toughest matchups of the season so far.
Waterfront Concert Series: Dan Mangan | May 23
Dan Mangan headlines the latest AREA 506 Waterfront Concert Series show Saturday night with Marc McLaughlin opening. The concert runs 7-11pm along the waterfront with tickets starting at $40.
