NEWS NOTES
⚾️ Pink takes over Memorial Field
The west side is the place to be as pink takes over Memorial Field for the fifth annual Pink in the Park fundraiser.
Grab a burger, cheer on some well-known locals during the Charity Inning and help support the St. Joe's Breast Health Trust Fund at the same time. The fund helps local breast cancer patients cover costs related to treatment and recovery, including transportation, counselling, prosthetics and other essential supports.
“We all know someone who has been touched by breast cancer, and this is one way we can all support others,” said Trish Hamilton with the St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation.
Special guest umpire, Fleaburn will also be on hand, and according to Trish, already has his pink jersey ready to go. Feel free to chirp a bad call, but remember he spends a lot of time at the rink and won't hesitate to pull your pink jersey over your head.
🕳️ Potholes getting patched
Saint John road crews have already repaired 3,285 potholes this year, and the pace is picking up now that the city's asphalt plant is back in operation.
Public Works director Tim O'Reilly said the return of hot asphalt makes repairs faster and more effective than the temporary methods used earlier in the spring when freeze-thaw cycles are at their worst.
Got a pothole that's still a pain in your asphalt? The city wants to know about it. Reporting issues helps crews identify trouble spots and track repair needs across Saint John.
🎨 A portrait built piece by piece
Students from Bayside Middle School have unveiled a giant portrait of Mi'kmaw elder Andrea Simon at centre ice in TD Station.
The artwork is the latest installment of The Power of One, a project led by local artist Bonny Hill that combines art with lessons about Indigenous history and culture. Students research Indigenous issues, choose someone they feel deserves recognition, then work together to build a large-scale portrait from hundreds of small tiles.
Hill said Simon recently shared her personal story with students during a video call, leaving the room silent as they listened. The finished portrait celebrates Simon's life and contributions while showing how many small efforts can come together to create something meaningful.

SATURDAY
Flower Swap At Rothesay Commons | June 6
Rothesay Commons gets a little more colourful from 9-10am with a free, all-ages flower swap. Bring cut flowers from your garden, the grocery store or a generous neighbour, lay them out on the swap table and build yourself a new bouquet from what others bring. The event is weather permitting, because flowers may be lovely but they are not into sideways rain.

Splatter Art Creations | June 6
Come throw paint around without getting yelled at. Splatter Art Creations hits the AREA506 Container Village on Saturday from 11am-3pm, giving participants a chance to drip, fling and splatter paint onto a 12x12 canvas in a guided, no-pressure experience. All supplies and protective gear are included in the $50 ticket price, and you'll leave with a colourful masterpiece.

No gardening experience is needed, just a willingness to help and maybe get a little dirt on your shoes.
SUNDAY

Kids can cast a line at Fisher Lakes in Rockwood Park from 9am-12pm during this free, catch-and-release fishing derby. The event is part of Fish NB Days, so no fishing licence is required for participants. There will be instruction, bait, light refreshments and prizes for the largest fish in different age groups. A solid Sunday morning for young anglers and families who like their plans outdoorsy.
Step Into Summer Workshop | June 7
Not Your Grandma’s Craft Club is bringing a summer-ready workshop to Yip Cider from 12-2:30pm. Guests will make two beaded anklets or one anklet and a set of Birkenstock charms, with all materials, guided instruction and one beverage included in the $35 ticket. Passport To Parks At Rockwood Park | June 7
Saint John’s free Passport to Parks series returns to Fisher Lakes at Rockwood Park from 1-3:30pm. Families can check out activities including canoeing, kayaking, face painting, bouncy castles, Benny Bubblz and more. There is no rain date, so Sunday is the day to make it happen.
