Good morning, Saint John! The long weekend is over, but the turkey has been asked to stay on through Thursday. Today it’s working in sandwiches. Let’s see what else is happening around here.
Here’s the scoop this morning:
Bayside puts the delay in Tuesday 🐢

NEWS NOTES
Room for one more bin ♻️
Your apartment building’s recycling setup could use a little sorting out. Saint John is reminding landlords and property managers that buildings can sign up for recycling collection through Circular Materials, at no cost to the building owner.
The next registration deadline is October 31, with service beginning May 1, 2027. Owners handle the paperwork, but tenants can help get things moving by passing along the registration link. The City says buildings with more than four residential units are already required to participate in approved waste diversion programs. Cardboard shouldn’t need a tenant petition.
Bayside hits the brakes 🚦
The long weekend is over, but Bayside Drive is keeping the slow pace. Starting today, October 13, lane reductions near the NRB Asphalt Plant at 750 Bayside Drive will mean delays for about four days while crews install infrastructure for the plant’s expansion.
Temporary traffic lights will guide vehicles through the work zone. The City suggests Grandview Avenue and Expansion Avenue as alternate routes. Give yourself a few extra minutes before blaming the snooze button.
A little more between the covers 📚
New Brunswick’s publishers are getting more money to help local stories reach the bookshelf. The province has added $200,000 to its book and periodical publishing support program, bringing funding for 2026–29 to $550,000.
Nine publishers will receive support, including three newly funded publishers. Recipients have already been selected, with grants paid over three fiscal years. A plot development worth a short mention.
