Good morning, Saint John! This week the best Scrabble players in the world were in Thailand spelling it out for global bragging rights. Meanwhile, we’re over here just celebrating humpday…which is worth 18 points by the way. Throw that bad boy on a double word score and suddenly Wednesday’s looking a lot more exciting.
Here’s what we’re hearing today:
Bus fare hits rock bottom 🚌
The market stays up late 🌮
Slow down there Vin Diesel 🚓
Let’s get into it!

NEWS NOTES
🚍 Free ride Wednesday
Saint John Transit is making Wednesday a little cheaper…and a little greener.
Saint John is one of 50 cities across Canada taking part in the annual campaign encouraging people to try cleaner ways to get around. So if you’ve been meaning to give the bus a shot, today’s the day to leave the car parked and enjoy the rare thrill of a free ride.
🌙 City Market after dark returns
The Saint John City Market is hoping to turn Thursday nights Uptown into more of a summer destination again as its Night Markets return this week.
City Market staff say this year’s markets are leaning harder into entertainment, activities and food to create more of an evening experience alongside shopping.
“We want to see the City Market thrive again,” staff told SJ Today.
The summer series continues July 2, Aug. 6 and Sept. 3.
🚔 Easy on the gas pedal
Saint John Police are launching another aggressive driving campaign this week, with extra enforcement running through Friday targeting speeding, tailgating, unsafe lane changes and other risky driving behaviour around the city.
Police are also reminding drivers to slow down in construction zones, use turn signals and maybe relax a little before treating the Main Street Viaduct merge like a NASCAR qualifier.
🧭 Rothesay wants your hot takes
Rothesay households should start seeing 2026 Citizen Survey invitations arriving in the mail this week as the town looks for feedback on everything from services and amenities to future priorities.
Its your chance to tell the town what’s working, what’s not, and whether Rothesay needs more pickleball courts, parking spots or pothole repairs first.
