NEWS NOTES
đ Whoâs Reading SJ Today?
Hey Saint John, Geoff here. Every so often, we like to check in and learn a bit more about whoâs reading SJ Today. Weâll ask a few personal questions (nothing too wild) to help us shape what we write and keep this thing running strong.
Your responses are completely anonymous. We ask for your first name just for newsletter personalization; everything else isnât tied to you and wonât be shared. All answers are 100% confidential.
And yes, thereâs a bribe. Whenever someone subscribes to SJ Today we ask them what their favourite local restaurant is. Italian By Night is the most popular answerâŚand of course a great choice, among many! So weâll give away a $100 gift card to IBN to a random person who completes the survey. It only takes about 3 or 4 minutes.
Will you help us out by answering the survey?
đ Firefighters Save Dog from Cliffhanger in Lorneville
On Saturday night in Lorneville, a local pup got a little too adventurous and found itself dangling over a cliffâŚcue the Saint John Fire Departmentâs Technical Rescue Team. With ropes, harnesses, and nerves of steel, one firefighter was lowered to the dogâs location, securing it and bringing it safely back to solid ground. No injuries, just a very relieved owner and one very lucky pup. From dog lovers everywhere in the region, weâre giving the rescue team two big paws up!
âď¸ Winter Help for Those Without a Home
As the cold creeps in, Saint Johnâs shelters are ready to offer warmth, safety, and a place to rest. The Foundation Centre, Outflow Ministry, and Coverdale Centre for Women on Waterloo Street, along with the Rothesay Avenue Emergency Shelter, are open and prepared to welcome anyone needing a bed this winter.
Most are open 24 hours, with extended hours during deep freezes. The province says outreach teams are stepping up across the city to connect people with food, shelter, and support. If you or someone you know needs help, call 211 anytime for information on local services.
đ¨ Saint John Wants Your Art

Work could end up in City Hall, Market Square, the Saint John Arts Centre, or the library. Priority goes to artists not already in the collection.
Deadline to apply is Monday, December 8, 2025. Full submission details are on the Cityâs Arts and Culture page.
