That call may look toll-free, but the only thing getting a trip to Jamaica could be your money.

The Town of Rothesay is warning residents about a rise in scam calls from the 1-876 area code. Callers are posing as bank representatives, hoping the number gets mistaken for a familiar 1-800, 1-866 or 1-888 line.

If someone calls asking for account numbers, PINs or passwords, hang up. Call your bank back using the number on your card, not one supplied by the stranger who just appeared in your phone with a Jamaican area code and a sudden interest in your chequing account.

Masks clock back in 😷

Medical masks are once again required in patient-care areas at all Horizon facilities, including clinics, emergency departments and waiting rooms. They remain optional in lobbies, hallways and cafeterias.

Respiratory illness remains at normal levels. Horizon is simply getting ahead of the usual fall increase, much like buying full-size chocolate bars at Costco in September, only with less chance of eating the goods before they’re needed.

An ATV with survival instincts 🛞

UNB engineers have built a research vehicle that can read rough terrain and adjust each wheel’s steering, brakes and power to help prevent rollovers.

Marv, short for multi-actuated research vehicle, relies on math and advanced algorithms rather than AI. The technology could begin appearing in new ATVs within five years, giving riders an extra hand when the trail gets sketchy and gravity starts getting ideas.

Sussex becomes the most colourful place in the province as dozens of hot-air balloons take flight during the 40th Atlantic Balloon Fiesta. Weather permitting, launches lift off from Princess Louise Park in the early morning and around supper, with four days of festival activities filling the time between trips skyward.

FRIDAY

North Pro Presents: Mist & Mayhem | September 11
North Pro Canadian Wrestling returns to the Waterfront Container Village with another night of flying elbows, grudges and extremely dramatic entrances. Gates open at 7:15 p.m. and the mayhem starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $30 for adults and $20 for children 12 and under.

SATURDAY

Thane Dunn’s New ELVIS in Concert | September 12
Two-time world champion Elvis tribute artist Thane Dunn returns to Imperial Theatre with a brand-new, high-energy trip through the King’s musical legacy. The 90-minute show begins at 7 p.m. with authentic costumes, unmistakable Elvis swagger and enough rock ’n’ roll to leave suspicious minds thoroughly convinced. Tickets are $54.75.

Rides @ Rockwood Automotive Show | September 12
Hundreds of classics, muscle cars, motorcycles, lifted trucks and custom creations roll into Rockwood Park for a full day of chrome, horsepower and charitable giving. The show runs from 9 a.m.–4 p.m., followed by the crowd-favourite burnout competition, with food, vendors and prizes along the way. Spectators can enter with a $2 donation or non-perishable food item, while vehicle registration is $20. Rain date is Sunday.

AREA 506 - A Fresh Coat of Paint | September 12
Longtime local favourites Ermine, Penny Blacks and Star Collision share the stage for a rare three-band Saturday night at the Waterfront Container Village. The all-ages show starts at 7 p.m., tickets are $20 and proceeds will also help restore spaces damaged by vandalism around the site.

2nd Annual 4 Corners Music Fest | September 12
The corner of Brittain and Campbell roads becomes an outdoor concert venue for six hours of free local music. The Dirty Toques, Maria Gonzalez, T-Squared and The Beachy Keens take the stage alongside special guest and NB’s Got Talent winner Zarah Mohamed. Music runs from 5–11 p.m.

Search for Canada’s Next Best Comic | September 12
Ten rising comics take over Wasted Day Brewing, and the audience gets a say in who moves one step closer to the national spotlight. The winner earns a chance to open for major headliners at November’s Sorry! Comedy Festival in London, Ont. The laughs and highly subjective judging begin at 8 p.m.

SUNDAY

Run the Loop Relay 2026 | September 13
Teams of two to five runners will tackle 10 one-kilometre laps outside Rehab1 Performance Centre in Quispamsis, passing a GPS watch as their baton and dividing the distance however strategy allows. The relay runs from noon–4 p.m., followed by pizza and a drink at Long Bay Brewery, with proceeds helping ProKids connect local children with recreation and sport.

3rd Annual Breasts Ahoy Golf Tournament | September 13
Breasts Ahoy trades paddles for putters at Midland Meadows Golf Club in Norton, with a Texas Scramble beginning at 2 p.m. Registration is $160 per foursome and includes a BBQ, with prizes, a 50/50 draw and the much-loved golf-basket draw supporting affordable, barrier-free dragon boating for breast cancer survivors.
