NEWS NOTES
đ Saint John police want your cameras
Saint John Police have a new way to keep the city safe and it involves your security cameras. The Safe Neighbourhood Camera Registry lets residents and businesses voluntarily register external cameras. If something happens nearby, officers might reach out to see if your footage can help but they wonât access it without your permission.
Itâs free, optional, and you can join or leave anytime. Even if your video ends up in court, you wonât have to testify. If you have a camera watching your driveway, storefront, or garden, registering it could make a big difference.
đ° Quispamsis eyes a slight tax bump
Quispamsis residents, your wallets might feel a little lighter next year. The town is proposing a 2.18-cent property tax increase in the 2026 budget to fund reserves, street projects, and shared fire and police costs.
Council isnât all on the same page. Deputy Mayor Mary Schryer warns lifting the property assessment freeze could spike taxes, while Coun. Kirk Miller questions putting millions into projects that havenât been discussed yet. Mayor Libby OâHara says the reserve funds are about staying ahead of growth instead of playing catch-up. Some provincial or federal funding could still soften the blow, so the debate isnât over yet.
đ Province eyes property tax makeover
Turns out itâs not just homeowners who think the property tax system is confusing. The province agrees. After hearing from more than 7,500 New Brunswickers, the governmentâs What We Heard report says the current setup feels unfair, unpredictable, and a little too complicated for comfort.
This was phase one of a three-step overhaul that aims to make property taxes more transparent, stable, and easy to understand. Up next: designing actual solutions and rewriting the rules to match. The province says it wants the new system in place by 2027, so donât expect your next tax bill to look different just yet.
đ KV Go buses are hitting the brakes
Rothesay and Quispamsis riders, your free bus joyride is almost over. The KV Go demonstration project wraps up Sunday, November 9, after 90 days of zipping residents around town. Loved it, hated it, or just rode for the novelty? Nowâs your chance to weigh in.
The towns want feedback through November 17 and even threw in a $50 gift card for the lucky survey-taker. If you didnât ride, donât worryâŚa second survey is coming soon. Your thoughts will help decide the future of transit in the Kennebecasis Valley.

Correction
Last Friday we said Kalu Thomas was 10. He is actually a teenager. Still young, but old enough to bring serious energy to Maestro Fresh Wesâ new childrenâs album Rhyme Travellers: Back to the Time Machine. If you missed it, it is a perfect listen with the kids on the ride to school. Fun, smart, and packed with beats. Stream the album here.
