⛽ Airport development gets the green light
A gas station and two restaurant spaces are officially planned for land surrounding Saint John Airport.
The airport and Neqotkuk First Nation confirmed the first phase Thursday, with preparatory activity expected in the coming weeks. There’s no construction timeline or word yet on which restaurants may be landing, so everyone can hold their drive-thru guesses for now.
No other developments have been announced. A community and media groundbreaking ceremony will be scheduled later.
🔌 Saint John gets a provincial charging hub
Saint John is plugging into New Brunswick’s latest EV push. The province is spending nearly $64 million on 72 climate projects this year, including more than $6 million to expand charging infrastructure.
The biggest slice is $5 million for 16 new fast chargers offering 29 ports across the province, with underserved areas and busy existing locations getting priority. Exact sites haven’t been announced, so keep the extension cord in the garage for now.
Saint John will also receive one of three new regional charging hubs for the provincial government’s electric fleet, alongside Moncton and Miramichi. That hub isn’t being pitched as a new public charging stop.
Another $100,000 will add chargers at three provincial parks, including Herring Cove on Campobello Island.
🎨 City puts some green behind the arts
Saint John’s next masterpiece could begin with everyone’s favourite medium…paperwork.
Applications are open for the City’s fall and winter Community Arts Grants, supporting non-profits and groups delivering arts activities within Saint John. Visual art, theatre, music, literature, media, crafts and arts education can all make the cut, provided the project benefits the community.
The City hasn’t said how much funding is available. Applications are due by 10pm on September 3.

Grand Bay-Westfield Fire-Rescue squares off against the Welsford Volunteer Fire Department in a friendly community showdown. Bring a lawn chair, cheer on your favourite team and enjoy an afternoon at the ballpark.
Free Kids Book Market | Aug. 8
Young readers can build their home library for free at this outdoor book market outside the Carleton Community Centre. Along with hundreds of books, families can enjoy story time, face painting, bookmark decorating and other kid-friendly activities while supplies last.
