😎 Don't Sweat It

Here’s what’s up this morning:

  • Too hot or just summer? 😎

  • The results are in on your travel plans 📊

  • Float City is open for business 🏝️

NEWS NOTES

Don’t Call it a Heatwave

The heat’s been making headlines from the U.S. all the way through Quebec and Ontario…record temps, humidex horror shows, the whole sweaty mess. Here in New Brunswick? It’s more of that polite burst of summer we’ve been waiting for.

Still, if you’re sweating in Quispamsis or Hampton today, you’re not imagining it. Inland temps could feel close to 30 with the humidex, while here in fog-kissed Saint John? A cool 19, if the coastal breeze can keep the sun at bay. Across the province, it’s the kind of day where your dashboard becomes a cookie sheet and your dog refuses to touch the pavement.

It’s not technically a heatwave (the weather nerds say it’s not long enough), but it’s hot enough to make you rethink errands, pants, or moving inland. A thundershower could break the tension this evening, but tomorrow brings fresher air.

💬 The Results: Staying Close, Skipping the Border

After Maine’s governor swung through Saint John hoping to boost cross-border tourism, we asked if you were planning to travel this summer. The clear answer? Most folks are staying close to home.

More than half of respondents (53%) said they’re holding down the Maritimes, while 32% are exploring other parts of Canada. Just 7% said they’d be crossing into the U.S., and a few said vacations just aren’t in the cards right now.

Travel to the States isn’t sitting well with many readers. One wrote they wouldn’t go “until the political climate changes” while another added simply, “Not while Trump is around.” Others cited concerns about safety, democracy, and rising hostility toward visitors.

Still, a handful are heading south. One reader said they’re road-tripping to a concert in New York, adding that they don’t want politics to stop them from supporting their favourite band. Another mentioned they’ve been going to Maine for decades and still enjoy the hotel savings and familiar coastal routes.

Overall, it’s shaping up to be another big summer for staycations. As one local put it, “There’s no place more beautiful than the Maritimes.”
