Good morning, Saint John! It’s National Tartar Sauce Day, which feels right in a city where you can buy fresh scallops out of a cooler in a parking lot. Shout out to the seafood regulars around town…scallops are back, and supper is about to be something else after this upgrade. 🐚

Here’s the lowdown for the day:

  • What’s behind the fence on Douglas? 🏗️

  • Golden Ball’s last call 🏚️

  • NB sneaking into the Dome 🍁

Let’s get it!

The 2025 Outlander clearance has officially landed at Loch Lomond Mitsubishi.

Award-winning Super All Wheel Control. Full-size SUV comfort. Serious winter confidence. If you’ve been thinking about upgrading this year, this is the window.

But move quickly. It all ends March 2. Drop by 1265 Loch Lomond Road or browse inventory online.

NEWS NOTES

🏗️ Museum build update

Wondering what’s happening behind the fence on Douglas Ave? Turns out the New Brunswick Museum upgrade is about 10% complete.

Most of the heavy site work to stabilize the heritage building is done, and crews have already logged more than 35,000 hours. The Museum says it has secured $19.5 million toward its $35 million public fundraising goal, part of the larger $108 million revitalization backed by federal and provincial funding.

They’ve also launched a public campaign where you can dedicate a seat in the new auditorium with a QR code sharing your story.

🏗️ Golden Ball permit approved

The Golden Ball building on Sydney Street is officially cleared for demolition. Not a surprise, just now on paper.

The city has issued the permit to J.D. Irving, Limited, which bought the longtime Irving landmark last year. The company has previously said the building is no longer suitable for use and plans to remove it, keeping the site as green space for now while future possibilities are considered.

No timeline yet for when the walls actually come down. ($)

⚾️ We’re sending New Brunswick to the show

With Jays fever still lingering after last fall’s World Series run, the province is stepping into the moment with a Game Day Takeover at the Dome.

Expect some New Brunswick signage in the crowd and a limited Explore NB x Ernie Clement hockey jersey in the mix.

Can we just bring Ernie down for a weekend?

WHERE WERE WE WEDNESDAY? 📸

📍 On Wednesday we shared this pic of a happy little sunshine on a sign somewhere in the city. Well, that sign is inside the Ecological Hub on Harbour Passage, designed to remind us that what comes around, goes around! No one was able to place the pic this week, but hopefully someone can next week!
