NEWS NOTES

🅿️ Parking ticket scam texts making the rounds

If you’ve been getting mysterious texts saying you owe the City for a parking ticket, delete them faster than you can circle the block looking for a spot on Germain. Saint John says it does not send out payment requests by text or social media. Real tickets only show up on your windshield or in the mail. Bottom line: don’t click, don’t pay, don’t get scammed.

📈 Saint John is building like never before

Forget “slow and steady”...Saint John’s construction game in 2025 is breaking records. In just seven months, projects have stacked up to a whopping $254 million in value (that’s more than triple the five-year average). Two shiny new schools in the north and south ends account for nearly half of that, but even without them, it’s still the busiest start on record. At this rate, local birders aren’t seeing anything besides construction cranes.

🏗️ New neighbours could be coming to Westmoreland

The east side might see some fresh digs next spring if a proposed development at 110 Westmoreland Road gets the green light. Plans call for a 27-unit, three-storey building tucked behind the existing multi-unit home that’s staying put after a big reno. A few of the new spots will be earmarked as affordable housing. The project cleared the Planning Advisory Committee and is now headed to council…likely on their next agenda. ($)

🛳️ Another day, another cruise ship

Saint John’s cruise season rolls on with the Majestic Princess gliding in today, unloading 3,600 passengers who’ll be fanning out across uptown and the region by lunchtime. She’s sticking around until 1am, giving visitors plenty of time to shop, snap foggy selfies, and ask “where can I pet a moose around here?”
