Hampton puts wait-list on notice 🩺

Hampton’s primary care wait-list could soon get a much-needed discharge.

A new collaborative care clinic expects to connect all 1,509 people on the local NB Health Link list with a provider within 12 to 18 months. The clinic opened September 1 and now has six physicians, supported by nurses, office staff and a clinic manager. Together, they’re already caring for 3,906 patients.

The province is putting about $2.2 million into staffing, equipment and a separate allied health centre across the street. A dietitian, occupational therapist and physiotherapist have been hired, with a social worker still being recruited.

Monarchs take flight mode 🦋

New Brunswick butterflies are carrying more tech than some grandparents.

Nature New Brunswick and the Point Lepreau Bird Observatory fitted 22 monarchs with tiny, solar-powered Bluetooth trackers earlier this month. When one passes within 100 metres of a Bluetooth-enabled cellphone, its location can be added to the Project Monarch map.

The signals will help researchers follow the butterflies on their long migration to Mexico and fill gaps that older tracking methods, which relied on someone physically finding a tagged monarch, often missed.

So if your phone connects with a butterfly, don’t panic…It’s just nature airdropping science.

Laughter All Around: Sixth Edition | September 27
Laughter All Around is back for a sixth round with Brad Rice, Kelly Lamrock and Jason Gary taking the mic at Picaroons General Store. The 19-plus stand-up show begins at 8 p.m., with doors opening at 7:30 p.m. at 32 Canterbury Street. Tickets cost $17.59, and refunds are available until three days before the show.

Rothesay Laser Clinic Client Appreciation | September 30
Rothesay Laser and Hair Clinic is giving clients a closer look at their skincare options during a free appreciation evening. Representatives from injectable, skincare, laser and aesthetic brands will answer questions and share advice, with door prizes also up for grabs. It runs from 6–9 p.m. at 121 Hampton Road. Advance registration is required.

Rachel and Richard Kidd: Type Two Fun | October 2
Father-daughter duo Rachel and Richard Kidd bring violin, piano and original compositions to the BMO Studio Theatre. The concert mixes musical styles and welcomes special guest performers while showcasing two accomplished local musicians creating together. It begins at 7:30 p.m. at 112 Princess Street. Tickets cost $40, or $35 for Saint John Theatre Company subscribers.

Grapevine Baby and Kids’ Gear Pop-Up | October 2–3
The closets and toy chests of 200 local families are taking over Exhibition Park with gently used clothing, toys, books and gear for newborns through tweens. Ticketed early shopping runs Friday from 1–4 p.m., followed by free admission from 5–8 p.m. The sale returns Saturday from 10 a.m.–2 p.m., with most remaining items marked down 50 per cent.

Proximity Featuring Terry Hatty | October 16
Proximity is digging into the funk, pop and rock of the 1970s and ’80s, including gems that rarely make it onto local stages. Terry Hatty leads the lineup alongside John Pottle, David Philips, Doug Boyer and Becky Reesor. The show runs from 7–10 p.m. at Steamers Lobster Co., 110 Water Street. Tickets cost $25.

Loch Lomond Watershed Hike | October 24
ACAP Saint John is leading a free guided hike through the watershed supplying drinking water to most of the city. Participants will explore mature forest, wetlands and lake shoreline while learning what keeps the area healthy. The hike runs from 10 a.m.–noon, beginning at 33 Whalen Road. Bring sturdy footwear, weather-ready clothing, water and snacks.

Hollywood star Walter Pidgeon was born at 23 Cedar Street in Saint John. Before making it to the big screen, he worked at his father’s clothing store and made his stage debut at Imperial Theatre at just 13. Not a bad opening act.
