šļø Extra Trash? Hereās a Freebie
Itās spring cleaning season, and the City of Saint John wants to help you part ways with your junk⦠but letās not get carried away. The cityās giving each household one bonus garbage bag for free pickup, no tag needed. Weekly pickups get the extra-bag grace during the week of May 5, and bi-weekly folks can haul theirs to the curb on their regular day between May 5 and 16.
Got more than one bag in your spring clean? (Yeah - thatās unacceptableā¦) Youāll need a $2 tag for each additional bag. And donāt forgetābulky items like couches and carpet can be picked up, but youāve got to call ahead. All the recycling, composting, and waste-sorting wisdom lives at fundyrecycles.com.
šØ Move Over, Or Pay Up
Saint John Police are running a Slow Down Move Over campaign now through May 2, and hereās the deal: if you blow past flashing lights without slowing down or switching lanes, itāll cost you $292.50 and three demerit points.
The rule? Drop to half the speed limit and move over, safely, for any emergency or service vehicle. That includes cops, ambulances, tow trucks, and road crews.
š¬ Wanna Be on TV?
Hereās your chance to go from watching Bell Fibe to being on it. A new short-form series is filming right here in Saint John this July, and theyāre on the hunt for both cast and crew. No union card? No problem. No experience? Still no problem.
Thereās an open casting call this Saturday, May 3, from 10am to 4pm at the Saint John Arts Centre, and everyoneās welcome to try out. They're looking for all kinds of roles ā think actors and behind-the-scenes help (yes, you with the clipboard and a dream).

Sussex Art Club Spring Show and Sale | May 2-3
The Sussex Art Club is showing off its spring collection this weekend at Golden Jubilee Hall. Pop in Friday from 7-9pm or Saturday from 10am-3pm to browse original work, enter a draw for a pet portrait or small painting, and maybe even find the perfect Motherās Day gift.
Family Bed Build | May 3
A local crew of volunteers is building beds for kids who donāt have one, and they could use an extra set of hands. Theyāve already delivered 24 beds in Saint John, complete with cozy bedding, and theyāre back at it Saturday from 10am-1pm. If youāre handy with a drill (or just willing to sand), this is a low-pressure, high-impact way to do some real good. Sign-up required.
Fog City Comic Con | May 3-4
The Saint John Free Public Library transforms into geek central this weekend for Fog City Comic Con, a free, all-ages celebration of comics, cosplay, anime, gaming, and all things fandom. Expect panels, workshops, and a full slate of local vendors like Fundy Comic Arts Society and The Goblinās Pocket.
Violet Festival | May 3-4
Saint Johnās Public Gardens will be in full bloom for the second annual Violet Festival, running 11am-5pm both days. Expect local vendors, live music from acts like Rebecca Dobbelsteyn and Keith Hallett, tasty eats (hello, Dosa Corner), plus alpacas and activities for the kids. Itās free, family-friendly, and full of spring charmā¦just remember to park in the nearby lot on Rocky Terrace. Rain dates are May 10-11.
