NEWS NOTES
🚲 Try biking to work
A local tour operator is putting that idea to the test this June, and it might be more doable than most people think.
David Eadie of Fundy eBike Tours is launching a small run of “commuter rides,” giving people the chance to try their actual trip to work on an eBike, with a guide the whole way. It’s less of a tour, and more real-life test drive.
“I live about 15 minutes from Uptown and ride regularly,” David said. “I’ve seen firsthand how practical eBikes can be here.”
The concept is pretty simple. He provides the bike, walks you through it, and rides your route with you from home to work and back. No pressure, no cost, just an optional donation.
It’s aimed at people in the North End, Uptown, and Millidgeville with shorter commutes who’ve been curious but haven’t taken the leap. Concerns like hills, traffic, and fitness level come up a lot, but David says the goal is to take that guesswork out of it.
“You’re not figuring it out on your own,” he said. “We ride at your pace.”
They’ve already booked a few commuters. And while it may not be for everyone, for some, it could be a surprisingly realistic way to skip the car a few days a week…not to mention make use of our killer new bike lanes.
📚 Library card gets you into parks
The library card park program is returning next month is giving the cards a bit more range.
Starting May 15, you’ll be able to sign out a pass to New Brunswick’s provincial parks directly from your local library. The program runs through October 11 and gives cardholders access for up to three days at a time.
There’s a limit of one pass per card, and about 500 passes will be available each day across the province.
Seems like a match made in maritime summer heaven….a book and the beach.
