Good morning, Saint John! The Blue Jays have lost six straight, so if you're looking for a Canadian team to cheer for this summer, Team Canada has you covered. Yesterday's dramatic World Cup win punched their ticket to the Round of 16, where they'll face either the Netherlands or Morocco on Saturday. 🇨🇦

In todays edition:

  • Slimy shoreline alert 🦠

  • Garage wanted for a classic 🚒

  • Your pets deserve the spotlight. 🐾

🎂 Happy belated birthday to Andrea Scott who celebrated on Saturday! Thanks for being such a great supporter of SJ Today!

Let’s get to it!

NEWS NOTES

🦠 Something nasty likes hot weather too

The sunshine is great. The weird green gunk floating along the shoreline? Not so much.

The province is reminding New Brunswickers to keep an eye out for blue-green algae, also called cyanobacteria, as lakes and rivers warm up. It doesn't always look the same, but it can show up as bright green, blue-green or even brown scum on the water, or dark mats stuck to rocks and along the shoreline.

It's mostly a heads-up for parents and pet owners. Kids shouldn't be splashing around where it's visible, and dogs definitely shouldn't be sniffing, licking or fetching through the slimy stuff. A quick look at the shoreline before diving in or unclipping the leash is usually all it takes to avoid turning a beach day into a trip to the vet or doctor's office.

🚒 Looking for a forever garage

Some classics belong in museums. This one just needs a dry garage.

The Saint John Fire Department is searching for a new home for its 1956 LaFrance fire truck after losing its storage space when the former Station 8 in Millidgeville was sold last year. The vintage rig still makes appearances at parades and community events, but now needs a secure place to call home between outings. If you've got the space, you'll be helping keep one of Saint John's most recognizable pieces of firefighting history ready for its next public appearance. v
