NEWS NOTES
🧀 Mac It Cheesy Brings the Ultimate Comfort Food Fix
Saint John’s collective love affair with mac and cheese just got an upgrade! Deanna Dempsey, the culinary wizard behind LebanOn The Go, is spinning out Mac It Cheesy, a dedicated mac and cheese haven that promises to be as inclusive as it is delicious.
Born from the wild popularity of their Friday mac specials, Deanna decided to make mac and cheese the main event - offering vegan, gluten-free, or classic cheesy comfort - there’s a bowl for everyone. The best part? It’s all served with that signature LebanOn The Go flair. Starting out with online orders and catering, Mac It Cheesy is ready to bring that creamy, carby goodness to your doorstep. Officially launching this Thursday, May 29 - you can place your order for pickup or delivery here.
🥎 Allison Grounds Dugouts Upgraded
Saint John’s Allison Grounds diamonds just got a glow-up - thanks to a $25,000 sponsorship from Saputo! The local dairy giant is sliding into home plate with fresh new dugouts that promise to keep players and coaches dry, shaded, and looking sharp. It’s a win-win - better gear shelter means more focus on the game and less on the weather.
Saputo’s support hits the sweet spot between community love and home-run improvements - because nothing says team spirit like a comfy dugout to cheer from. To celebrate, the City of Saint John is hosting a Swing into Softball Skills Session on
June 7.
Here’s to more home runs and fewer rain delays at Allison Grounds!
🏠Holy Conversions!
Former Church on Germain St. Receives PAC Rezoning Approval
Bruce Wilkin’s latest project is turning heads and pews. He’s pitching a plan to convert the old Germain Street Baptist Church (Currently home to InterAction School of Performing Arts) at 228 Germain St. into a 14-unit apartment complex, complete with seven affordable housing spaces.
Built in 1968 and shuttered in 2011, the church has spent the last decade hosting everything from art shows to community shindigs. Wilkin says his plan is to partner with Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and Build New Brunswick to create affordable digs, giving the community a chance to stay in the neighbourhood without breaking the bank. The Planning Advisory Committee gave the green light for rezoning, and it’s headed to city council soon. ($ Telegraph-Journal)
